The Second Day of Christmas

By December 26, 2015No Comments
SCRIPTURE: LUKE 2:8-12

In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.”

REFLECTION by Jim Dodds

This is ground zero for the birth of Christianity as a religion.  It must have been a shock to these simple shepherds to have all of this shown to them and especially the appearance of an angel telling about the forthcoming event.  Just put yourself in their place.  What would you have done ?  History shows us that they did go to Bethlehem as instructed by the angel.  And this has been the basis for Christmas pageants for hundreds of years.

PRAYER

Jesus, help us live beyond fear into Your Glory and eternal love.  Give us grace to see the angels that guide and The Shepherd who protects us.  Help us not be afraid.  Amen.

BLESSING

May the Creator, Shepherd, and Wisdom bless you this day and every day.  Amen.
