Words I try to live by

As community, we are walking together to find purpose and meaning in our lives.  Many would say that LOVE is the meaning of life and being that love in the world with action and presence would be our purpose.  Yet, we all find ourselves in different places, struggling with similar but unique challenges.  We also have distinctive words to express our beliefs and our yearnings.  And for some of us, they change over time.  Today, I went through the exercise of writing the Apostles Creed in my own words to express (and hopefully stay faithful) to the beliefs expressed so very any years ago.  I would be interested to learn what your reaction to this exercise might be.

I believe in a Creator

Who created the heavens and the earth

And all that makes them, inhabits them, and sustains them.

I believe in the Savior, Christ who is named Jesus

Who is one with the Creator

And has lived among us human beings.

He was put to death, by the powerful of both,

The political and the religious elites.

He was tempted but lived without sin.

He had the power to break the chains of sin

That hold us all in temptation and,

Opened the way to life after death,

         Eternal love,

And release for our very souls from our bodies,

He did this in triumph when he rose from the dead.

Jesus did this for you and me.

He now is once again united with the Creator

         And with the Holy Spirit.

I believe in Wisdom and Truth, who is called the Holy Spirit.

She lives today and is active among all communities of believers.

I believe in the resurrection of all things.

I believe in the power of the forgiveness of sins,

Through the real resurrection of Christ’s body,

And I stake my life on eternal life.  Amen.
