Starr King’s Winter Wonderland
by Mary Ellen Ferguson
On Saturday, January 28, Sue Davis and I participated in the first ever Winter Wonderland at Starr King K-8. Over 150 children and adults enjoyed a pancake and sausage breakfast with hot cocoa and whipped cream, and coffee. Afterwards, they headed into the courtyard to visit one of many booths set up with arts and crafts. The multipurpose room and the courtyard were decorated to reflect a winter theme and made the morning festive. Besides the food and crafts, families were invited to visit the clothing closet and the library cart to take what they needed. It was very heartwarming to see all the smiles not only on the children but also the parents and guardians. It would be a difficult decision to choose whether it was the volunteers serving or the children and parents who had a better time. We look forward to many more opportunities to support Starr King.
St. Michael’s played a small part in financially supporting this event that paid for the pancakes and sausages. I am so grateful to St. Michael’s for making it possible for me to be a part of our community in this way. Thank you for the opportunity to be of service to our neighbors and ultimately to God!
